Although the image above is an Ikea ad, it doesn’t have to be. Why not do something different than your neighbors? I’m thinking images of patio furniture, planters, and desks. How can the community be represented in a unique way that captures attention?
What if your community has all new appliances? (See image above.) How can you use your building for your own ad?

Ooooh, “different” is my theme song! I know nothing from real estate or multi-family anything (simple ecomonics, can’t afford the stuff), but I do know that to strive to be not only better, but also to be different than the “other guy” is a key ingredient to the strategies that give us many of our modern day success stories. The status-quo in ANYTHING gets easier to ignore with every passing day, no?

I think folks go out of their way to be the same and blend in, mostly because you can go through life unnoticed that way.
To be different requires a dose of Courage, as many of the things you try fail, something that a lot of people are to afraid to try.
Eric, I look forward to a time when there are fewer ugly banners, wilted balloons and wind-blown A-frames lining the streets. And I am excited for the future, when marketing budgets aren’t focused on blending in but standing out!
Perhaps it’s less about courage and more about laziness. Honestly, isn’t it much easier to distribute a ‘Marketing White Paper’ than it is to create a system for submitting unique ideas and rewarding innovation?
(Snap out of it Mr./Mrs. Marketing Director!) Doing what everyone else has done for the past 15 years will only get you what everyone else has. I want more, and I know you do too Eric! Hopefully, 2010 will be the year for change in Multifamily.
